Shelley Currier:
Head Swimming & Diving Coach
[email protected]
I am honored to be the new head coach of the Deer Valley Swim and Dive Team. Competitive swimming has been a significant part of my life as a coach and an athlete. I believe in creating a positive environment where athletes challenge themselves every day, learn from successes and failures, and prepare themselves for their next chapter -- whether it’s in the pool, classroom or life. My motto is “Practice like you perform!”
By day, I’m a Kindergarten-Third Grade Literacy Coach for the Deer Valley Unified School District. When I'm not working, I enjoy the outdoors with my husband, two daughters and sweet Golden Retriever.

I am excited to part of the Swim and Dive Coaching Staff. I became interested in dive when my son started trampolining on a ridiculous scale in middle school and thought what high school sport will this translate to the best? I remembered hearing on the school announcements that the Dive team was looking for daredevils to join and it occurred to me that Dive might be a good fit for him. This is his fourth year diving. After many hours at the pool for practices, meets, and invitationals with club and school, I have developed a strong base knowledge of the sport that I am continually working to expand through study and dive coach mentors. I believe that hard work and passion are the keys to success in athletics and life.
I am beyond excited to join the Deer Valley team as a coach! I spent 4 years of high school on the Deer Valley swim team, and it helped me become the person I am today. I have been a competitive swimmer for my entire life, but began swimming at the age of 4 on the Bellair Barracudas team in the Desert Swim League. From the moment I started, I knew swimming was going to be my sport. I continued to swim and dive year round starting at the age of 8 years old. I swam competitively for Swim Neptune and Phoenix Swim Club, and met some of my best friends on the Deer Valley swim team. I'm studying Kinesiology at ASU and just finished my fourth season as a swim coach for the Bellair Barracudas. My personal goal as a coach is not only to build better athletes, but build better people. I also want to be someone who is always there for my athletes and create a positive and open environment for everyone around me. |
